Apple Valley Little League Celebrates 60 Years

On March 11, 2017 Apple Valley Little League celebrated opening day as well as it’s 60th anniversary.  Players and parents gathered at the James Woody Community Center for the opening day festivities.  AVLL is one of the largest little leagues in the High Desert with nearly 870 children participating this year.  Information Officer Will Johnson introduced all 70 teams to the crowd.  The High Desert Regulators, a group of Equine enthusiasts, provided the presentation of colors and Apple Valley resident Sophie Sooter did an amazing rendition of the National Anthem.

Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Tom Perkins threw out the ceremonial first pitch.  Apple Valley Mayor Scott Nassiff was also in attendance and encouraged kids to “work hard, play hard and play fair.”  Other guests included Youtube star Brian Hull, AVLL President Frankye Prothero, and the 501st Legion that made an appearance as three Stormtroopers and Darth Vader.  The league did a fantastic job in providing a memorable day for players and families.
